Dr. Karen Boubel, Musicorum's music director, is Chair of the Department of Music at Minnesota State University, Mankato, and Professor of Music Theory, Composition, and Aural Skills. She has been professionally active for decades as a choral director and choral singer in Wisconsin and Minnesota. While a music faculty member and Dean of the College of Arts and Communication at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, she conducted many choral masterworks with its University Chorus; she also founded a regional community chorus and conducted church choirs in her 22 years in Wisconsin. She was a founding member/singer in the Schuetz Choir of Madison, Wisconsin. Boubel has also been a guest conductor of large regional choruses where her choral compositions have been performed.
Currently, Boubel enjoys teaching in the Department of Music at MSU, Mankato. Before the past seven years in the Department, she served for seven years as MSU's Vice President for Academic Affairs and then Interim President in 2001-2002. Boubel earned her BM degree in Music Education at the University of Wisconsin-Superior, and her Master's of Music and Ph.D. degrees in Music Theory and Composition from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
A choral arrangement she has just completed based upon "Of the Father's Love Begotten," a 12th century chant, will be premiered by Musicorum at the December concerts.

Musicorum's performances have been blessed with the talents of many other musicians, including harpist Amy Kortuem, percussionist Rick Orpen, pianist Bonnie Jorgensen and guitarist Jim McGuire.
